We want you to enjoy your skincare routine here at Asian Beauty Essentials. We also want your SKIN to enjoy the routine, we understand not wanting or having time to do the full 10 steps! It’s a personal choice and we're not to judge, especially when you’re new to the Kbeauty skincare world. There’s a lot going on and it can be difficult to know what goes on your face? What goes on your face first? We all have those questions when making the choice to start a skincare routine but not know anything about actual skincare and that’s okay! Let us guide you through the 5 step-routine that isn’t mind boggling and your skin will love!
Step 1 - Cleanser
To prep your skin for the products that you’re going to put on it, it’s important to wash off any accumulated dirt and bacteria on your skin. Now you’re like okay...but how do I know what type of cleanser is right for my skin? We’ve got you!! There are a bunch of skin types and dedicated options for each type. Finding the right cleanser can be hard, and we don’t want you to waste all your money on trying to find the right one. We also don’t want your skin to go through that!
There are several different benefits we’re seeking out with our routines that all vary based on skin type, and sometimes what we want to achieve with our skincare goals or our type of skin (yes environmental and hormonal factors can change our skin type) can change, so it’s best to make sure our cleansers match our current skin type.
Oily: You can have oily skin all the time, or during certain seasons, we have your back for all of it. If you have oily skin, you know how bad it can make your pores, causing pesky blackheads, and overall giving you an unwanted gleam. For our oily skin beauties, we recommend gel and foaming cleansers. These types of cleansers are great to cleanse your skin of those extra oils being built causing problems but not strip it of its natural ones.
Dry: Your skin might want some extra cuddles of moisture in the cleanser. Dry skin can suck especially when it feels like you’re putting globs of products that are “moisturizing” but may just be doing too much to your skin, causing breakouts and not soft kissed skin. To prep your skin while moisturizing, we recommend a creamy or no-rinse cleanser. There’s a lot going in these cleansers but not too much so that your skin is still hydrated but not stripped during cleansing.
Sensitive: It may feel as if anything could cause your skin irritation with sensitive skin. You may find it difficult to find and decide what type of products your skin will say yum to. Then again, that’s what we’re here for!! Don’t stress too much, we’ve done the work for you. We recommend creamy or gel cleansers for sensitive skin. These cleansers are gentle on the skin, cleanses your skin without irritating it.
Normal: Woohoo, your skin is pretty good with many products, which is great! There always can be better options for your skin when choosing a cleanser. So what type of cleanser should you choose? We recommend gel, oil-based, and creamy! You have a couple options for your skin, and these are all gentle and will give you a clean start to your routine!
How do we maximize the use of a cleanser?
- Make sure all makeup is removed so that the cleanser is able to cleanse your skin completely.
- Cleanser on skin for a minute, gently massaging into skin in circular motions with fingers.
- Rinse with lukewarm water
- Use a clean towel to lightly skin prepping for the next step.
NOTE: If you aren’t double cleansing, that’s a whole thing. When you’re ready, take some note on which oil based cleansers and water based cleansers work best for you. Till then, don’t sweat it, use your regular cleanser and get ready for step 2.
STEP 2 - Toner
There used to be some hate around toners, but we promise they are now worth all the hype. Toners are so beneficial for the skin and are basically an extra hydration boost, and are great after cleansing and before serum! Toners are liquids in bottles that are able to hydrate the skin x2 in a matter of seconds after applying leaving you with soft skin!
Toners are great for people of all skin types and feel like you’re putting magic water on your skin.
How do we maximize the use of toner?
- Use it in the first minute after you have cleansed your skin to get the most out of it.
- Put drops of the toner on your hands or on a cotton pad to apply.
- Massage into skin and feel the yummy hydration.
STEP 3- Serum (This is likely a new step for you)
Serum is skin food, as if you are eating your daily fruit and veggies. Serums are high in active ingredients depending on which serum you decide on that can include Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, and more. These active ingredients protect, help, and feel great on the skin. On top of that, it’s fast acting, and will see results soon after use!
How do we maximize the use of serum?
- Make sure serum is put on before things such as moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup as it absorbs quickly into skin.
- A little goes a long way, serums are high in active ingredients so a few drops will be the perfect amount for your skin.
- When applying your serum, gently massage into your face in circular motions, giving yourself a little massage.
Step 4 - Eye Cream/Gel
This is the most sensitive area of the skin on your face and likely one of the first places people notice aging. Eye creams and gels can be the biggest investment for skincare routines. Some tiny eye care jars sell for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. An eye cream/gel will moisturize the area to help with the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and give extra hydration meant for that direct area!
How do we maximize the use of eye cream/gel?
- Use a tip of the finger size of the product.
- Apply to the face in small dots starting under your eye to the tip of your eyebrow.
- Gently blend into skin with your ring finger.
STEP 5 - Moisturizer
Finally, the last step! To lock in everything you’ve put on your face by now, a moisturizer is in need! In every skincare routine you read or hear about, there will always be a moisturizing step. If you don’t moisturize after all the steps before this, you’ve basically wasted all the time spent beforehand. All skin-types need moisturizers, yes, even if you have oily skin! Applying moisturizer on your skin is not going to flood your face but help maximize the other products.
How do we maximize the use of moisturizer?
- Make sure skin is not 100% dry so that your skin can take in all of the product
- Apply moisturizer in pea size dots on face
- When massaging on skin, be gentle, rubbing too hard can cause irritation.
