Rose Water Toner and why rose water can be 2-3x more hydrating for your skin blog

Cleansing helps to keep your skin looking radiant and healthy. Regular cleansing retains the skin’s hydration and prevents the production of sebum while helping reduce your pore size.

Using a toner after cleansing is essential when doing your skincare routine. Why? Simply because it’s the last step in removing dirt and impurities left after you have cleansed using soap and water. Now, let's talk about toners for a minute. Toners are skincare water-based products that may be infused with ingredients like eucalyptus, peppermint, aloe vera, and rose water. Its main purpose is to cleanse the face while prepping your skin for absorption of other applications.

With so many types of toners in the market today, it can really be overwhelming to choose which one will perfectly match your skin type and needs. Despite all these options available, two of the most popular components of toners are becoming talks of the town recently: rose water and distilled water.

Why is there a comparison between the two, and why are they getting more attention than toners per se? Let's take a deeper look to understand these two important components.

Distilled Water for Skin

Since we use distilled water on a daily basis by means of ingesting it, incorporating it into our skincare routine is safe, especially for individuals with very sensitive skin. Clearly, washing your face with distilled water is better than washing it with tap water as it dissolves skin impurities from soap and foaming residues unclogs pores, and makes your skin extra clean minus the chemicals.

Rose Water Benefits for Skin

Rose water is made from rose petals steeped in water. It has been used traditionally for thousands of years on beauty products, and is known for its anti-inflammatory, hydrating, antioxidant, and anti-aging properties.
What are the benefits and why choose toners with rose water?

To answer this, let's first break down the benefits of using a toner with rose water over plain distilled water when washing your face.
Rose water has so many great skin benefits with its strong anti-inflammatory properties. These properties help maintain the skin’s pH balance, soothe irritation, and help reduce skin redness. Rose water is also rich in antioxidants that can aid in healing scars and wounds - antioxidants can help delay the signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines.

The daily application of a toner with rose water can certainly give your skin a boost as it gives instant nourishment after cleansing to remove dirt, dead skin cells, and other impurities. You can also try other rose water-based products such as the Stop and Smell The Roses - Brightening Kit from Asian Beauty Essentials. The kit conveniently includes rose water toner, rose galactomyces serum, and rose tone-up cream.

What are the side effects of using rose water toner?

Rose water products are safe except if you are allergic to them (although allergic reactions are quite rare). However, if you experience burning, stinging, redness, and irritation after applying products that contain rose water, consult a doctor immediately as it may be a sign of an allergic reaction.

The daily application of a toner with rose water can certainly give your skin a boost as it gives instant nourishment after cleansing to remove dirt, dead skin cells, and other impurities.

So where should your loyalty lie? Should you be team distilled water or team rose water?

As both have their own benefits that can yield good results for the skin, there are benefits that rose water can give to your skin that distilled water can't such as brightening effects and antioxidants, etc. However, using distilled water is the first step in clearing your skin especially if you are suffering from acne, redness, and irritation can be a good start. From there, you can transition to using distilled water from using toners if you want to elevate your beauty routine.

I guess the question should be why go for second best when the best is at your fingertips? Start using rose water today and cleanse knowing you have the best benefits for your skin.

As a lab manager at Golyath thought I would throw in my 2 cents. as you say distilled water is very gentle on the skin, excellent for cosmetics. Now for the techie bit of why! Any good quality distilled water should be virtually completely free of micro-organisms (bacteria), if you use standard tap water the chlorine evaporates over time allowing bacterial growth. As you’ve already said some people are more sensitive than others, but any bacteria can cause serious skin irritation.
Disclosure: I work for Golyath products we manufacture purified water. But thought my industry knowledge may be helpful to this conversation. Please do checkout or distilled water, it is high quality https://golyath.co.uk/products/distilled-water-5-litre
