Why mom skincare is so important?

Let’s face it: when it comes to skincare, moms are always on the go and often don't have time for self-care.

Mom skincare is a must because it helps to keep our skin looking young and radiant, and it also helps to prevent wrinkles, which start appearing between your 30s and 40s. In addition, busy moms need to moisturize their skin regularly to keep it healthy and hydrated.

Plus, we all know that with pregnancy and breastfeeding comes a lot of skincare concerns: uneven skin tone, dry skin, and pesky blemishes which need to be addressed ASAP.

However, there is something you should bear in mind: moms need to be careful when choosing skincare products since some of them could affect your little bum!

Skin care for new moms: Our 8 most basic tips

As any mom knows, taking care of a baby is a full-time job. But that doesn't mean you have to neglect your own skincare routine. In fact, with a few simple tips, you can easily incorporate skincare into your busy schedule.

Trust us, mama, you deserve some self-care too! Here are our fave skincare tips for moms:

1. Don’t forget to wash your face every day!

When it comes to choosing a cleanser, a busy mom needs one that is gentle enough to use on the go, but still effective enough to get the job done.

We know you don’t have time to think about a morning cleanser and a night one, so having a gentle cleanser is the best option for you!

A gentle cleanser won't strip the skin of its natural oils, but will still remove dirt, makeup, and other impurities like your kiddos drool. And, since it won't leave the skin feeling dry or tight, you can use it every day without worrying about irritation.

Go for a fragrance-free product with ingredients like salicylic acid, witch hazel, and glycerin to help you get rid of blemishes and acne, and moisturize your skin at the same time.

You can put the cleanser in your shower and use it when you go in, easy peasy!

2. Go for anti-aging products

We all know the stereotype of the aging mom - she's got a face full of wrinkles, her hair is starting to go gray, and she's generally looking a bit rough around the edges. But what if there was a way for moms to stay looking young and fresh-faced?

Enter anti-aging products. By using creams, serums, and other treatments formulated to target specific areas of concern, moms can help to keep their skin looking its best and prevent premature aging signs. And, who doesn't want to look good for those family photos?

Additionally, anti-aging products can not only help you to smooth wrinkles and fine lines, but they can also even out skin texture and keep your skin hydrated to prevent future aging signs.

If you don’t have enough time to layer on anti-aging serums or spot treatments, just go for moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and niacinamide.

So, even if you are a young, new mom in your 20s, you can start using anti-aging. Believe us, the future 35 years old you will thank you!

Important: apply these products only on your face and avoid direct contact between your baby’s skin and your face while your skin absorbs the product. Also, avoid the use of retinol if your skin is too sensitive or if you are breastfeeding.

3. Sunscreen is a must

Those endless strolls around the park just mean one thing: sunscreen!

Just as you apply sunscreen to your baby when you leave the house, you should also layer some on your face.

Moms need to use sunscreen for a lot of reasons. For one, it helps to prevent wrinkles and sun damage. But it also protects against skin cancer, which is no laughing matter. In fact, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.

In this sense, to make things even easier, you can totally use your kiddo’s sunscreen on your face since kids’ sunscreens also offer light coverage for adults!

So make sure to slather on the SPF before heading out into the sun. And don't forget to carry it inside your diaper bag and reapply it every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.

4. Add a face mask every now and then

Not only are face masks quick and easy to use, but they also provide some serious benefits for your skin and self-care.

Face masks can help to hydrate dry skin, remove impurities, and even out your skin tone. That’s why using them at least once a week is good for your overall health.

You can use a sheet or a clay mask for 20 minutes or so and then take it off or, if it is easier, you can put on an overnight face mask and wear it during the evening, even when your kiddo wakes up in the middle of the night for a bottle or a diaper change.

Just find a mask that is ideal for your skin type and addresses your concerns. They will leave you feeling your skin baby-smooth

5. Moisturizers are your next best addition

There are a lot of things that moms have to remember to do on a daily basis - from making breakfast to getting the kids to school on time. But one important thing that moms sometimes forget is taking a tiny moment for hydration.

People often ask why moisturizers are so important for skin care. After all, the skin is already naturally moisturized, right? Well, here's the thing: your skin is constantly losing moisture, and it needs to be replenished on a regular basis. Otherwise, it will start to look dry, dull, and lifeless.

Moisturizers come down to water retention. Over time, these cells can become damaged or depleted, leading to dryness. Moisturizers help to replenish the skin's cells, trapping water in and giving your skin a plumper, more youthful appearance. In short, moisturizers are like water for your skin

For this, you can go for a cream or gel, depending on your skin type, with glycerin, amino acids, and ceramides.

Super-cool tip: if you had a bad night of sleep and have an important thing to do during the morning, choose a tinted moisturizer!

A tinted moisturizer is like a regular moisturizer, but with a little something extra. Just like your standard moisturizer, it's packed with ingredients that help to hydrate and protect your skin. However, it also contains a hint of color, which can help to even out skin tones and give you a natural-looking glow.

Additionally, you can choose a tinted moisturizer with a matte finish if you have oily or combination skin.

6. Have a good night of sleep

Most moms are juggling so many responsibilities that they don’t get nearly enough sleep. But skimping on shut-eye can take a toll on your skin, leaving you looking tired and dull. To make sure you’re getting enough ZZZs, aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night.

Okay, we get it, you must be laughing at this! How the h*** are you going to get a full night of sleep if you are a new mom? Well, if you can’t but still want your skin looking its best during the morning you could totally go for eye patches *in addition to overnight face masks, of course.*

Eye patches will de-puff the skin around your eyes, which is the one that makes you look tired, and will help you to get rid of those annoying dark circles that haunt you every day!

7. Hair care is important too!

From the never-ending battle against tangles and frizz to the never-ending battle against split ends, moms have their hands full when it comes to hair care. And that's not even mentioning the time and effort that goes into styling your hair just right.

We know that one of the things that can easily fall by the wayside in the chaos of motherhood is taking care of your hair, but sparing some time when you are washing it to apply a hair mask at least once a week is always a good idea.

This extra step will only take you a few minutes, but it will do wonders for your hair in the long run!

8. Take care of your hands

Skincare is not only about your face, it should include your hands too!

One simple step that all moms can take to improve their well-being is to use hand cream. Hand cream helps to keep hands soft and supple, and it can also help to prevent wrinkles. In addition, this product aids to soothe dry, chapped hands and protect them from external factors.

Plus, this cream always smells amazing and makes us feel pampered, even when we don't have time for a spa day. So go ahead and slather on the hand cream, moms!
